QR code scams now at epidemic level

QR code scams have reached epidemic levels, according to the Victorian Police Force. They are now everywhere, from posters, cafe menus, parking meters, Facebook and other marketplaces, job offers, and so much more.

How to spot legitimate or illegitimate QR codes?

The most obvious sign of a QR code scam is when a QR code sticker has been placed over the legitimate one using an adhesive label. This mainly applies to self-service restaurants or cafes where you must order via smartphone at the table. Traveling with Esim – How Good is it?

I talked today about using esim when you travel and both the convenience of downloading an esim to your phone before you leave home, and the cost savings. My daughter is traveling right now and the whole process of setting up the phone from creating the account with the esim seller through to being ready to switch on the phones new esim once landed, took only 15 minutes!

Its a very convenient way to travel with your phone. I mentioned the esim seller Airalo (for the test I bought the esim through these guys – no freebies) and the cost was about $21 for 10 days of data access.

But what about if you don’t have esim support? Most phones have a dual sim or you can replace the sim card you have with an international sim. Listener Mary mentioned she uses a sim service called ‘Keepgo’, Whenever she travels she loads the sim service with credit and heads off over seas. Ofcourse they sell esim to!

Here are lots of phones we have reviewed WITH ESIM

Happy traveling…

Guests and Topics on the Show
Celebrating World Heart Day tomorrow, we invited Dr. Ross Walker, A Preventative Cardiologist who shared with us how the ECG technology on smart devices can help in heart health. The watch i am wearing is called the Withings Scan Watch. I like it because the battery last 30 days. Its a hybrid smart and analogue watch, with ECG. Its a good option when you want the tracking, but far longer battery life.
We also had discussion on advancement in hearing technology and  Thomas
Audiologist, from Connect Hearing who shared with us the groundbreaking hearing aid featuring the innovative Spheric Speech Clarity system.
This first-of-its-kind technology mimics the human brain, effectively filtering out background noise to enhance conversations and social interactions in various environments. With the integration of the new DEEPSONIC AI chip, this device empowers users to understand speech from any direction, addressing a significant challenge for those with hearing loss. Joining us is Sam Thomas, an Audiologist who will share insights on this revolutionary technology and discuss the concerning trend of older Australians withdrawing from social situations due to hearing difficulties.
