Life & Technology – 2GB 1st November, 2015

A few weeks ago we had a chat to our friend Mike Boyd about the brand new Apple TV. Still just called the Apple TV, the new Apple TV brings apps and Siri to the big screen to what Apple calls tvOS. The idea is that it will be very easy for iPhone and iPad developers to make their existing apps work on the new Apple TV.

Well, the new Apple TV is now on sale, with a 32GB unit retailing for AUD$269 and a 64GB model retailing for AUD$349. Click here for more information on the new Apple TV.

On an Apple TV related note, Stan has a brand new app ready to coincide with Apple's new set top box, but they've also made the jump to smart TVs. 2015 Samsung smart TV models now have a dedicated Stan app available for them, and LG TVs will see a Stan app before the end of November. These join Stan's suite of apps, which now also includes the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4!

Google’s pair of brand new Nexus smartphones will be available at our sponsors Harvey Norman early this month – the LG made Nexus 5X and the Huawei made Nexus 6P. The new Nexus 5X is a 5.2-inch device, whereas the Nexus 6P is the first all-metal Nexus phone and comes in at 5.7-inches.

Both phones are designed to show off new features in Android Marshmallow, such as advanced power saving, native fingerprint reader support, and Now on Tap, a context aware version of Google Now.

Harvey Norman will sell the Nexus 5X in 16GB and 32GB in black only. It will sell the 64GB Nexus 6P in aluminum. The 16GB Nexus 5X will retail for AUD$659, while the 32GB model will be priced at AUD$739. The 64GB Nexus 6P will be priced at AUD$999.
