A Very Clever Scam

If you listen to my radio show then you know my opinion of cyber criminals is that they are nothing but pathetic bottom feeders and I despise them for their attempts try and rip you off. However, this scam that was sent through by our listener D. Petrucci is very clever, he explains it below –

Could you please advise your listeners of a scam going about that is allowing thieves illegal access to there computers. Organised criminals are stealing passwords and data to gain access to people’s bank accounts and private information.

I will make this as simple as I can:

SCAM SET UP:

Your phone rings and a nice fellow will inform you that they have detected a problem on your computer. They will ask you to switch on your computer to verify the fault. They will ask you to go to a set file on your computer to prove they are correct. The fault will actually exist because the data is sent there by your operating system. The faults are harmless but most people don’t know this. Often they will say they are from MICROSOFT, this company will NEVER contact you in this way!

SCAM RESULTS:

After they have gained your confidence (they found a fault!) they will persuade you to give them more access and this is where they will steal the information needed from your computer. Your passwords and banking information”credit card details, everything private is now with them.

If this has happened please do the following:

1). CHANGE ALL YOUR PASSWORDS.

2). WATCH YOU BANK STATEMENTS FOR AMOUNTS DEDUCTED.

3). UPDATE YOU VIRUS SCANNER AND RUN IT.

Please inform every one of this scam. They are making a fortune out of many, and making countless people miserable in the process.
