Today Show – Protect Your Phone & Card
In-app purchases on supposedly ‘free’ games are costing parents a boat-load on credit card charges. So how do you protect your phone and credit cards from these? Charlie offers some advice on the Today Show.
In App purchases guidelines:
1) Do not give your iTunes password to your kid
2) Apple used to make it that if you bought an app within 15 minutes of another app, they would NOT ask for your password again because you were already verified. However, with in-app purchases they ask for your password every time -even if something is purchased within the 15 minute period - just in case it is your kid buying.
3) Off the record, if your bill as astronomical, Apple will look at it on a case-by-case basis and come to an accommodating arrangement. Obviously if you are a serial offender, the less sympathy you will get.
4) Go to Settings -> Restrictions on the iPhone or iPad and actually turn off the ability to even make in-app purchases in the first place.
On another note, Facebook got people thinking with its latest announcement, with people assuming it would be a new phone. It turned out to be Facebook’s new search engine!
